Two washing-machine events in one week. Both shut off automatically.

In a purpose-built rental tower protected from day one, two separate washing-machine events were intercepted in a single week. Each time the suite's water valves shut off automatically the moment the sensor triggered, containing both events to single suites.

The challenge

Washing-machine hoses and connections are among the most frequent sources of in-suite water events. When one fails, the water runs until someone shuts a valve, and in an occupied tower that someone may be out, asleep, or unaware. The water does not wait. It finds the floor, the walls, and the suites below.

For a property manager, the frequency is the problem. These are not rare catastrophic events, they are routine failures that happen across a building over a year. Each one carries the potential to become a multi-floor claim if no one is there to stop the flow.

The solution

Eddy placed unit-level sensors in the in-suite laundry areas, paired with automatic zone-valve shutoff. In two separate events in the same week, a sensor detected water in the laundry area and the suite's water valves closed automatically within a minute, stopping the flow at the source before anyone had to respond.

On-site staff then assessed each situation and scheduled maintenance. Because each shutoff was limited to the affected suite, no neighboring apartments or building systems were impacted, and residents experienced minimal inconvenience with water restored quickly after checks.

Coverage

Monitored high-risk areas

  • In-suite laundry
  • Appliance connections
  • High-risk fixture points

Functionality

  • Automatic zone-valve shutoff
  • Unit-level water escape detection
  • 24/7 Monitoring Center support

Outcome

Automatic zone-valve shutoff means a washing-machine failure stops itself. Twice in one week, a routine appliance leak that could have become a multi-floor event was confined to a single suite before staff had to act. The resident comes home to a checked unit, not a flooded one.
